The thing that I've uncovered about going through a creative shortage, scarcity, paucity, drought, or famine is that it doesn't last always. Going through this phase is not always a bad thing.
Look at it for what it is, a temporary phase...a phase is a stage in a process of change or development; a distinct stage of development.
JUst because you're in this phase, its does not mean that you've lost it, or that you're not a good artist...self-defeating thoughts could keep you in this phase for a longer period of time...which is not a good thing. Use this time to "relax" your mind..."rest". Find new inspirations, look at everything as art (.i.e, the cars on the street, dirt, trees, people, etc). This allows you to see things in a completely new way, in a way that people do not see things...therefore giving you favor to produce these things in art...
Another thing you can do during your "phase" (creatibe drought/famine) is to look at others art...look art some abstract stuff...things that challenge your mind, copy it just to challenge yourself...especially if its somethings that looks hard to do (this builds your confidence in your skill.) After you've come out of this "phase" you will have fresh ideas and fresh art...
But the key really is to "relax" your mind and be patient!
And understand that you are in a process of change and development...a stage where its time to do new things, stop holding on to the "old" its doesn't work all of the time!
